Living in town

In town area, predecessor of present town office and various public offices were set up as a center of Teshio area. Timber economy laid the foundation for prosperity and the wilderness of the Teshio River basin was opened as a settlement. Urban area became a gateway for migrants and supplied a large amount of daily necessities.
Traffic of people who dreamed of wealth of “New World Teshio” made town lively, and various encounters between things and people added spice to their daily life.

街のくらし

　市街地には、「天塩国」、「天塩郡」の中心地として、戸長役場や各種の官公署が置かれた。木材景気が繁栄の基盤をきずき、天塩川流域の原野が開拓地としてひらかれるなかで、市街地は移住者の玄関口となり、たくさんの生活物資を供給した。
　「新天地天塩」の富に夢をかけた人々の往来は、市街地をにぎわせ、ものと人のさまざまな出会いが、日々の営みに彩りをそえた。
