Herring field

The herring field in spring and the salmon field in autumn are representative of fishery in Teshio. Many fishermen from various areas gathered in Teshio and it was very lively. Herring fishing using gill nets was organized by many people including masters, boatmen and other workers. During the period from Amioroshi(the beginning of fishing) to Kiriage(the end of fishing), they processed herring into dried herring and fertilizer of farmland while living together at Banya*. This herring field declined from around 1954.

にしん場

　春のにしん場（網から外して仕分けてストック＆作業場）と秋のさけ場は、天塩の漁業を代表するもので、各地から多くの漁夫が集まり、大変なにぎわいをみせた。建網や刺網を用いて行われるにしん漁は、親方以下、船頭、下船頭（しもせんどう）そしてモッコショイにいたるまで多くの人々が組織された。アミオロシ（漁をはじめる時）からキリアゲ（漁の終わりの時）の期間、番屋で共同生活をしながら、身欠き（みがき：干してあとで食べれるように）、しめ粕（畑作の肥料にする作業）などのにしん加工が行われた。このにしん場も昭和29年頃から衰退した。
